Hi there, I’m Zoey, and I think mindfulness & mindfulness meditation are highly important skills.
Back in 2003, a university course in Buddhism launched my interest in meditation. My interest took a long time to germinate, and initially I just read books about Buddhism and meditation.
I started a regular meditation practice during the pandemic. In September 2021 I also started working with a meditation teacher and attending meditation groups.
While I approach meditation from an academic Buddhist perspective, I focus on the mindfulness aspects. I have found that removing the religious trappings makes it more broadly accessible for people.
My core values are:
- Community and Empathy: Combining the importance of building strong, supportive relationships with a deep understanding and compassion for others, this reflects a commitment to nurturing connections and empathetically responding to the needs and emotions of those around me.
- Creativity and Learning: Merging the pursuit of innovative, creative thinking with a dedication to continuous learning and growth, this highlights my appreciation for artistic expression and intellectual development, emphasizing the joy of exploring new ideas and skills.
- Autonomy and Collaboration: Balancing the significance of self-reliance and personal freedom with the benefits of working cooperatively, this embodies the respect for individual choice and independence while valuing teamwork, shared goals, and collective problem-solving.
- Fairness and Balance: Emphasizing a commitment to equity, justice, and a balanced approach in all aspects of life, this reflects my desire for equal treatment, equitable distribution of resources and responsibilities, and maintaining harmony in various situations.
- Well-Being and Support: Combining a focus on physical, mental, and emotional health with providing support to those in need, this represents my commitment to nurturing well-being, both in myself and others, and offering assistance and encouragement wherever possible.
